I wrote this in July - so some things may have changed. I will try to catch anything before I post :)
Well then.
I thought I would do a brief update on what the heck I have been up to lately! As many of you noticed, I have not had much of a life lately. No I have not decided I hated you all, or anything drastic like that :) It is due to part to the full time job, part time job and 4 courses I was taking. However, I can now have my life back! (well at least somewhat) Yay!
Where to start? As of about half an hour ago, I wrote my last exam in my undergrad university career. Woo hoo, I'm done! I decided to suck it up and take my final four courses during the spring session. I was taking two night courses (Mon thru Thurs nights 6-9 pm) along with an online course and a television course (4 hour classes once a week to watch) plus all the assignments and junk that go along with it. It was busy! Thankfully they were somewhat staggered and it was only June when all four were running at the same time. But now I am done! My convocation isn't until October, so I have no exciting pictures to show as of yet.
My full-time job is working under a partnership with the Manitoba Naturalist Society and the City of Winnipeg Naturalist Branch. I am doing a riverbank restoration project in assiniboine park. Its a lot of fun. I can to hang outside all day in the riperian forest in Assiniboine Park. We have done a lot of work there (All Winnipegers must go check it out!). We have planted over 1500 trees in the forest, woodchipped trails, removed invasive species from the forest, established no mow zones along with general trail maintenance. I'm also in the process of designing permanent signs to put in the forest to inform people. Its also conveniently close to Roca Jacks and Sargent Sundae, so during lunch we can escape the heat in the air conditioning for Knishes and ice cream. I am currently working seasonal until sometime in October. Hopefully more oppertunities will come out of it. [Update: They did! I have a job until January]
My part time job is still at Pier 1. I really enjoy working there still, and would like to keep it as my back-up job, once my summer job ends. I also love that it is air conditioned, which is a treat after working in the sun all day.
Asides from that, things are also going well on the homefront. Jeannine (my sister) is still living with us, and also finished school in June. She is currently job and apartment searching to get out on her own. [Update: She found both, and is moving on Monday] Ryan is doing well, he is working in Thompson still, commuting back and forth. Still hoping for a transfer anytime now.
We built a new fence for our house, and are planning on expanding our gardens (I plan, Ryan digs..its a good system). I have lots of pretty flowers this year, and we have already been eating from our vegetable garden. Not that plants are terribly interesting to most of you - I just enjoy talking about them.
Anyways, I think thats all for now. Time to go Relax!
Take care, and let me know whats going on with you!
Cheers
Jaim
